TL;DRAbstract

The article examines peculiarities of implementing dual education in higher education institutions of the European Union countries. Using the example of the University of Siegen, it explores the structure and content of the dual study program “Industrial Mechanics” which is delivered through close cooperation among three educational providers – the university, a vocational college, and an industrial enterprise. Professionally oriented theoretical knowledge is delivered at the college, taking into account the specifics of industrial processes, then deepened at the university, and further reinforced through hands-on experience in the workplace. The integration of the new dual program in Mechanical Engineering into the system of vocational training significantly reduces the often-criticized gap between academic preparation and the development of practical skills in bachelor-level engineering programs.
