TL;DRAbstract

Metformin is a biguanide, which the 2017 Diabetes Practice Guidelines recommend as first-line treatment for people with type 2 diabetes. Therefore, this drug is widely used in Thailand. However, Metformin has serious adverse event called Metformin associated lactic acidosis (MALA) from, which has a high mortality rate even though the incidence is low. The aims of this study were to investigate factors associated with occurrence and mortality of lactic acidosis in patients receiving Metformin. The case control study was conducted by collecting data from Phrae hospital’s electronic medical record on patients who were admitted with MALA between 1st January 2020 and 31st December 2020. Results: A total of 228 patients were divided into study group (MALA) 39 patients and 189 patients were included in the control group.
