TL;DRAbstract
This chapter discusses the special issues relating to the ICU and its environment that make antimicrobial resistance a major problem confronting critical care clinicians. The chapter addresses: (1) reservoirs of infection in the ICU; (2) some of the most common and most problematic “infectious syndromes encountered by intensivists; 3) a few of the most perplexing resistant pathogens of special interest to ICU clinicians, and (4) approaches to the prevention of infections caused by these resistant pathogens in the ICU environment.
