A Preliminary Study of an Intermittent Collection Procedure as an Alternative Permeation Method for Non-Volatile, Water Soluble Chemicals
TL;DRAbstract
This paper proposes a novel collection procedure which takes into account the properties of oil mixtures, heavy pesticides, and other low volatile, low water soluble compounds. The procedure involves an intermittent splash collection of the permeant using an appropriate solvent and several options for subsequent detection. This paper compares our procedure with test procedures currently proposed in the revision of the F739 standard method, using a solid absorbent collection method, to determine its efficiency. Based on this information, data show permeation results for each method and discuss the advantages and disadvantages with both collection approaches. We propose that the intermittent splash based collection method become the standard test procedure for permeation testing of chemicals which are not sufficiently volatile for collection by gases and which cannot be samples using aqueous collection methods.
