TL;DRAbstract

This project sets out to carry out an investigation of various security issues related to residential security. It aims to examine residential security from a number of standpoints including regulatory/legislative measures that are in place to protect residential environments. Through analysis of various crime statistics and secondary data, a picture of current residential security can be seen. This information is then analysed alongside primary data obtained through questionnaires and other research methods to enable conclusions to be drawn. The level of public awareness as to the relationship between design and crime has been of key importance in the undertaking of this study, and has been addressed by a number of methods. There was found to be little prior research into the actual existence of the relationship between design and crime, and more assumptions that it existed.
