Enhancing Effect of Product of Activated Macrophages upon Resident Peritoneal Macrophages

TL;DRAbstract

Macrophages having Fe and complement receptors can produce several factors
\nwhich could activate the lymphocytes.
\nIt was assumed that the activated macrophages might secrete certain factors which could
\nactivate the resident macrophages. Resident macrophages from rat peritoneal cavity were
\nincubated with two kinds of supernatant obtained from the culture of thioglycollate-elicited
\nmacrophages with IgG-coated erythrocytes or complement-coated erythrocytes.
\nSupernatant from the culture of elicited macrophages and complement-coated erythrocytes
\nenhanced the attachment with either IgG-or complement-coated erythrocytes, but supernatant
\ninduced by IgG-coated erythrocytes augmented the degree of attachment with IgG-coated
\nerythrocytes only.
\nAny enhancing effect of both supernatants was not observed on the ingestion of IgG-or
\ncomplement-coated erythrocytes.
