TL;DRAbstract

This study was conducted in an attempt to determine the annual economic impact of Ball State University (BSU) on the Muncie community. As a state-supported institution of higher learning, BSU has an obligation to inform taxpayers of the costs incurred and the benefits derived from its existence. A university uses the resources of its community, but it also contributes significantly to the local-economy and to the quality of community life.This study presents an analysis of the impact of the economic flows for the 1978-1979 school year. The impacts measured in this report have been categorized into three sectors: business, government, and individual. Although this study is limited to determining the qualitative impact of BSU on the local economy, the reader should also consider the social, cultural, environmental, and political influences from the presence of the university.
