DYNAMIC TORSIONAL FAILURE OF LIMESTONE TUBES

6

TL;DRAbstract

Dynamic failure characteristics of thin-walled tubular specimens of rock are examined by use of a torsional split Hopkinson bar apparatus. Fialure is found to be a complex process involving two distinct response phases. The first phase is associated with material behavior and is limited by tensile fracture initiation, whereas the second phase is dominated by the kinematics of the failed specimen. 5 figures, 1 table.
