Nowadays, air cargo is responsible for approximately 2% of the cargo weight moved and approximately 40% of the value in goods transported. The market for this kind of transport grows at rates higher than other modals making evident the importance of a reliable and quick goods handling to the global commerce. In Latin America, cargo traffic is increasing Europe-bound while the United States leads the amount of direct investments in the region. Air cargo companies seek to adapt the size and quality of its fleets choosing more economical and cargo capable aircraft congruous with the Merchant routes in use. The present work aimed at the comprehension of the cargo industry, in the world and in Latin America, comparing it with its main competitor (maritime transport), seeking the understanding of how cargo transport fleets are developing and how the industry companies are adapting to new tendencies.
