TL;DRAbstract

Baade's method for determining the distance to pulsating stars is generalized to any dynamic, spherically symmetric object at a cosmological distance. Past applications of this method to supernovae to determine the expansion rate of the universe are reviewed. Future applications of this method to determine also the deceleration parameter (using the space telescope) are outlined. It is argued that this method suffers less than most others from the disease of untestable assumptions.
