Influence of elevated pressure on blast-furnace performance

7

TL;DRAbstract

The influence of elevated pressure on the reduction processes and gas dynamics in the blast furnace is analyzed. With scope for greater air injection and greater upper and lower pressure differences, increase in gas pressure at the charge hole boosts furnace productivity and reduces the CO consumption in the reduction of iron from wustite, thanks to the briefer batch residence in the isothermal zone. The coke consumption is mainly affected by the decrease in heat losses with increase in productivity. The benefits of increasing the gas pressure at the charge hole are apparent in the operation of blast furnaces at OAO Novolipetskii Metallurgicheskii Kombinat.
