TL;DRAbstract

ABSTRACT In temperate climates, the annual ventilation air heating and cooling energy can exceed any other heat loss or heat gain component. The importance of adequate ventilation air is respected by new minimum ventilation requirements for buildings. The code does not require ventilating empty spaces, and makes allowances for preheating ventilation air by renewable or heat recovery sources. Recent advances in solar air heating and control technology allow for major savings in high occupancy buildings, at modest cost.
