TL;DRAbstract

Underage drinking is a current problem in the Netherlands. Excessive drinking can have serious health consequences. After numerous research on alcohol use and –abuse it appears that this can best be explained by (a combination of) different factors. Because the role of implicit cognitions on alcohol use and abuse has not been thoroughly researched, this research sets out to research what role implicit cognitions play in alcohol use and abuse. Simultaneously the possible role that personality and explicit cognitions play in alcohol use and abuse is researched. Furthermore the relation between explicit- and implicit cognitions and the relation between personality and implicit cognitions will be checked. 86 subjects between 16 and 22 years of age filled out a survey online. This survey consists of 4 questionnaires which measure personality, explicit- and implicit cognitions. 4 different personality traits are also measured: sensation seeking, impulsivity, hopelessness and anxiety sensi
