Potentials of and the socioeconomic benefits of selected ecotourism centres in Ijebu Zone of Ogun State Nigeria

TL;DRAbstract

The tourism sector in Nigeria is rudimentary and not well explored due mainly to the high technical manpower requirement and neglect from successive governments over the years. This research assesses the potentials of and the socioeconomic benefits of selected ecotourism centres in Ijebu zone of Ogun state, Nigeria. Four ecotourism centers were purposively selected namely, Obanta shrine, International stadium, Ijebu shrine and Ojude Oba festival respectively. Furthermore, 110 tourists were randomly selected in these locations and questionnaire and personal interviews were used to elicit information relevant to the study. The data were analyzed using descriptive and gross margin analysis. The result shows that the Ijebu zone is endowed with varieties of tourism assets which can be classified as man-made, natural, cultural and religious representing 46.43%, 25%, 17.86%, and 10.71%, respectively.
