Large scale analysis of EST in the Haliotis discus hannai is underdeveloped. In order to understand the preliminary characteristics of transcripts and provide resources for the SSR marker study in the Haliotis discus hannai, we have an analysis of tandem repeats based on 5 784 ESTs downloaded from NCBI. The major results are as follows: 1) Types of tandem repeats are rich in the EST of the Haliotis discus hannai; 2) Sequences annotated by Gene Ontology have few types of SSR; 3) ESTs have a wide distribution, which is helpful to SSR marker study.
