TL;DRAbstract

It is generally agreed upon that the most universal section of an aca demic library (or library) is the reference room. There is, however, another part of the library which is as diversified and encyclopedic as the reference room, and faces similar problems than the reference section: the independent periodicals division. I call it independent so as to distin guish it from the classified arrangement of periodicals in which the volumes are scattered in the library, according to their subject field, merging into the big entity of recorded knowledge. It is, of course, debatable as to whether the alphabetically arranged, or classified collection has more advantages. There are arguments for and against both of them. The reader might find a fine treatment of the issue in J. Borden's article in the LRTS1. As far as I am concerned, I consider the alphabetical arrangement to be superior to the classified one, especially because of the direct access, and the alleviation of border cases which so
