Beyond Medical Care Rim Taleb I am writing my reflective piece about my encounter with a deaf child. This was during our visit as family medicine residents to an institution for disabled children, as part of a community medicine rotation. It was not the first time I had met a deaf patient, but I was touched by his case in terms of medical condition, family approach, and physician-patient relationship. Therefore, I thought it would be an important issue to write about in your journal dedicated to issues related to deafness. We arrived at a camp of Palestinian refugees. Our residency program director was waiting for us at the main road. The goal of that visit to an institution for children with disabilities was to become familiar with the care given to this group of patients. We walked in alleys in the camp.
