The reporter from popular Chartist newspaper, Northern Star, confused. He had hoped to take some interesting notes on a Meet ing in Favor of in Theobald's Lane, June 6, 1839, but meeting had turned into a terrible row. Daniel O'Connell, M.P., ex pected to be chairman, but he did not arrive. After an hour, so re porter related, someone proposed that a Major Beniowski take chair, but this was signal for an explosion of frantic fury on part of a portion of crowd- Almost immediately, blows were dealt most energetically and indiscriminately, and a hundred voices, hoarse with rage, shouting at once, rendered scene as exciting as it unac countable. The platform stormed and taken over a dozen times. Some of its assailants were thrown headlong into crowd, or, if they gained platform, they were soon pulled down by legs, but usual ly not before they had kicked someone.
