TL;DRAbstract

In Brazil, the field of public health surveillance (HS) holds many theoretical, conceptual and methodological inter-relations with the Ecosystem Approach to Human Health (or Ecohealth). The main objective of this master dissertation is to present a discussion and analysis that seeks to clarify the interfaces between the methodological principles of these two fields, since we believe that the cross-fertilization between them can contribute to the improvement of health surveillance in the country. Thus, the chapters were prepared in the form of articles; we first compare the basic pillars and principles of Ecohealth with those of Health Surveillance (HS), as well as those of the brazilian Universal Health Care System (SUS). We view the theories that gave rise to the concept of HS and their interfaces with Ecohealth, and then identify the application of Ecohealth in two specific sectors of public health surveillance in Brazil, namely: environmental health and occupational health.
