Self-explaining and forgiving roads
TL;DRAbstract
According to the road accidents statistics, rural roads are among the most dangerous roads. \nThe highest number of fatal road accidents in Europe happens on rural roads. The potential \nfor improving safety of these roads by reducing the number of road accidents and/or the \nnumber of accidents with the most severe consequences is represented by two concepts of \ndifferent strategies, i.e. the concept of self-explaining roads and the concept of forgiving \nroads. \nThe main purpose of this thesis is to present a theoretical overview of self-explaining and \nforgiving roads, and to provide options for their practical implementation. The introductory \npart of the thesis presents the concept of road safety, especially safety of rural roads, on the \nbasis of the characteristics of road accidents and their statistics, and the theoretical \nbackground of driver and driving behavior. This is followed by an overview of the most \nestablished road
