Optimization of therapeutic dose delivery of intrahepatic beta emitters in patients with liver metastases: The impact of residual activity in calculations of Y-90 microsphere dispensed dose

0

TL;DRAbstract

2313 Objectives To determine if the intrahepatic delivered dose of Y-90 microspheres differs significantly from the prescribed dose and develop a compensatory approach to dose calculation. Methods The prescribed dose of Y-90 microspheres for treatment of hepatic metastases is determined using a formula based on tumor and liver volumes from CT measurements. 66 patients with hepatic metastases were evaluated. Dispensed doses were assayed to be within 10% of the prescribed dose.An ionizing chamber was used to measure activity of the dispensed dose delivery system before and after the intrahepatic infusion. The residual activity in the delivery system was compared with the original count data. The residual % of the dispensed dose was then calculated. Results Patients were prescribed 30.22 +/- 7.89mCi and the dispensed dose was 30.77 +/- 7.81mCi Y-90 microspheres(NSD).Residual activity was present in all cases and was 8.3 +/- 2.4% of the dispensed dose.In 56 patients who received complete in
