TL;DRAbstract

This paper provides a general description of the Pat Heung Maintenance Centre, West Rail from planning to commissioning and outlines the key elements in the planning, design, construction and commissioning from the project management perspectives. The Centre is the largest railway depot in Hong Kong when it is completed. A technical study was carried out to determine the layout and preliminary design of the depot. Then a detailed design contract was carried out. The works include civil, building, building services and depot equipment. Integration of the railway operation systems and depot maintenance equipment is a major consideration in the project implementation. The project involves the integration of many disciplines of works and coordination is very important in the project implementation. The contracting strategy and various project management techniques applied in the project are described.
