Facilitated Release of Glutamic Acid from Olfactory Cortex Slices by Stimulation of Excitatory Input
TL;DRAbstract
When re-uptake of glutamate was blocked by L-cysteic acid, release of radioactive glutamate from olfactory cortex slices was facilitated by repetitive stimulation of the lateral olfactory tract. The same stimulation was ineffective at a low Ca++ concentration. Since postsynaptic neurons did not respond to stimulation in the presence of L-cysteate, it was inferred that the stimulus caused liberation of glutamate from nerve terminals of the lateral olfactory tract.
