EXPERIENCES WITH PERFORMANCE RELATED BINDER TESTS IN AUSTRIA: THE CONNECTION OF STANDARD TESTS AND SHRP TESTS

1

TL;DRAbstract

The goal of this research work has been to investigate the usability of SHRP binder tests and specifications for Austrian binders. The results of these tests are compared with those obtained with the existing standard binder classification system (Austrian Standards). Eighteen of the binders most commonly used in Austria were chosen for testing. The whole testing program comprised the three SHRP aging steps. All tests were done on original, RTFOT-aged and PAV-aged binders. In contrast to the SHRP binder testing system, all SHRP tests were carried out within all of the three aging steps and over the entire relevant temperature range (e.g. DSR testing from 4 to 124 degrees C). The Direct Tension Test DTT was not included in this research. The results turned out that for all the tested binders there is a very good correspondence between the ratings that were obtained with the conventional testing system (Austria Standards) and those from the SHRP PG system. It was also found that the sele
