Dynamic simulation of solar heating of offices with a variable air volume system
TL;DRAbstract
This work deals with solar heating of a public (or commercial) building, wherein the demand for heating is mostly during the day. Therefore air heated by solar energy can be used directly, with minimal use of storage. The first stage of the work included dynamic heating load calculations of the space to be heated - the top office of the Technion Energy Laboratory building (125m/sup 2/) - taking into account measured occupancy distributions. The space heating system studied here is a variable air volume (VAV) including a multitude of operating modes which may facilitate the optimization of its performance. The system includes solar air heaters, rock-bed storage, auxiliary electrical heaters, three fans and air ducts with dampers. A control system was compiled with the following basic control logic options: (1) heating the rooms directly from the air collectors, (2) heating the rooms from the storage, (3) heating the rooms with the backup system, (4) charging the storage, and (5) any sui
