Coming of age in Australia.

TL;DRAbstract

These lectures were begun in New York, and developed in Italy. They were completed at Sydney, during August 1984. Those August days - some of the happiest and most beautiful I have spent in Australia - renewed the conviction from which my Boyer themes arose: a belief that Australia's manifold advantages can contribute inimitably to a world in need of stimulus and conciliation. In that sense these talks are an appeal to Australia to consider and value the entire context of civilised human endeavour, so that their own rich patrimony may take its place there, and ripen, and fulfil its destiny. It seems to me that Australia has long since come of age. Experience is there, and humanity, character, and conscience. Only the realisation is awaited, and the inspired acceptance.
