TL;DRAbstract

[Introduction] Ionizing radiation is routinely used in the treatment of malign tumors. Unfortunately, radiation injury of non-tumoral tissue may be the consequence. Previous models for the study of radiation enteropathy use direct irradiation methods such as whole abdominal irradiation or irradiation of surgically exteriorized intestine. To date, no experimental setting exists for investigating bystander effects of the intestine, where parenchymatous organs are irradiated.
