1968 Objectives The objective is to pictorially present a safe and reproducible method of Y-90 resin microsphere dose preparation. Included are set up, dose drawing procedure, and radiation safety monitoring. Methods Pictorial displays and captions explain details of Y-90 resin microsphere dose preparation. Modifications of the Y-90 resin microsphere dose procedure were initiated in 2002 because of radiation safety issues and difficulties encountered in the original dose preparation procedure such as vacuum generation in Y-90 resin microsphere delivery vials, use of Huber needles, pressure created in delivery vials, and a time consuming clean up. Changes included: (1) vent and spinal needles in 2002, (2) vent filter needles, tuberculin syringes with plungers removed in 2004, (3) silicone coated spinal needles in 2005, (4) lint-free paper with plastic backing to protect the work area and expedite clean up in 2007, and use of tape to adhere residual resin in cleaning.
