TL;DRAbstract

Among the fourth generation (4G) wireless communication specifications, the WiMax supports the wireless network solution across the metropolitan area, because of its high data rates, large coverage, and high quality transmission. As for the fixed WiMax, the orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) system specification is defined by the IEEE 802.16-2004. In this thesis, we aim to conduct software/hardware co-simulation for the OFDM according to the 802.16 specification. We first evaluate the system performance of the downlink OFDM-PHY by using the MATLAB software, and design the receiver’s synchronizer for improving the ability of data detection. Next, we design the hardware modules by using the Simulink/Xilinx System Generator, and compare hardware performance of System Generator with the software performance of MATLAB as for co-simulation. In this thesis, we realize the OFDM modulator, packet detector, carrier frequency offset’s (CFO’s) synchronizer, symbol timing synchronize
