This paper explores photography, the north and the photographic imagination in the UK, Sweden and Finland, from the late 1950s to the present. It cites the work of Sune Jonsson, Martin Parr, Daniel Meadows, Esko Mannikko, Elin Berge and others. Based on the author's ongoing research at the Sune Jonsson archive in Umea, the paper explores Jonsson's work in Vasterbotten, based on research which will be published in its entirety in 2014.
