The problem of smoking is a very serious threat that cannot be viewed as a normal issue and also is a public health problem. The increasing number of smokers is worrying because of the bad effects on health. It is found that a child averagely starts smoking around age 13 to 15. Better level of knowledge through information and education on the dangers of smoking can prevent children from not smoking. The purpose of this study is to know the level of knowledge in students of Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Mak Mandin, Pulau Pinang on the dangers of smoking. A cross-section study was conducted with 100 students aged 10–12 years in Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Tamil) Mak Mandin, Pulau Pinang from June to July 2010 using a questionnaire with 19 questions that collected information of knowledge on danger of smoking.
