Antioxidant and antimicrobial activity of bambangan(Mangifera Pajang) seed extracts

TL;DRAbstract

The hexane, methanolic (dichloromethane, ether. ethyl acetate, butanol and water) and ether: ethyl acetate extracts from bambangan seeds were tested on their total phenolics content by using Folin-Ciocalteu. antioxidant activity by using 2,2-Diphenyl-1- picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging, ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) and beta-carotene bleaching methods and antimicrobial activity were tested by disk diffusion assay, broth dilution method and time-kill study. The extracts shown a total phenolics content ranging from 0.30-366.11 mg/ml garlic acid equivalent (GAE) where methanolic butanol extracts gave the highest phenolics content while hexane extract was the lowest. Methanolic ether. ethyl acetate extracts shown the most potent antiradical activity (EC50 = 0.02 mg/ml).
