Comparison between F-18 FDG PET/CT and bone scan for detection of bone metastases in stomach cancer patients
TL;DRAbstract
1324 Objectives To compare the diagnostic performance of F-18 FDG PET/CT and bone scintigraphy (BS) in detecting bone metastases in stomach cancer patients. Methods PET/CT and BS images obtained within a month of each other from 1073 stomach cancer patients from January 2009 and December 2010 were respectively reviewed. The maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) from the site where bone metastasis was suspected was measured. The lesion site and CT finding (blastic or lytic feature) were analyzed. Malignancy was determined by pathology, clinical follow up for at least 6 months or correlation with other imaging studies. Results Of 99 lesions from 27 patients suspected as bone metastasis with PET/CT or BS, 85 were confirmed positive on final diagnosis. On patient-based analysis, the sensitivity, specificity and accuracy was 95%, 99.6% and 99.5% for PET/CT and 70%, 99.3% and 98.8% for BS, respectively. On lesion-based analysis, the sensitivity and positive predictive value was 92.9 % a
