TL;DRAbstract

The cropping of genetically modified plants, for example Bt-corn, has raised concerns on their potential ecological risks. In order to recognise their potential effects on nature and environment as early as possible, it is necessary to obtain a basic knowledge about the behaviour of transgenic plants in the environment. In the first part of this study a production of Cry1Ab Bt toxin, which is equivalent to Cry1Ab toxin in Bt-corn, by using recombinant bacteria in large quantities, was established. The biochemical characteristics and the stability of this toxin were examined. Immunological detection methods of the Cry1Ab toxin were developed and optimised. Using these methods, the seasonal and tissue specific expression patterns of transgenic corn lines were quantified in the second part of this study. Field studies were conducted during the growing seasons from 2001 to 2003 and Cry1Ab levels were quantified in the events Mon810 and Bt176. The Cry1Ab content of more than 1600 plant samp
