PACE: Backbone of educational activities in Computational Engineering at TU-Darmstadt

0

TL;DRAbstract

The basis of the multi-disciplinary study programs in Computational Engineering (CE) was established at the Technical University of Darmstadt (TU-D) in 2001. It has been organized as a new type of interdepartmental institution on the same legal basis as a regular department. The department of Computer Integrated Design (DiK) of the Faculty of Mechanical and Process Engineering has been involved in the CE-activities from the very beginning. Within this frame a new course Introduction to CAE-D has been established in the fall semester 2006 with a scope on interdisciplinary concept of CE. This contribution gives an overview of the educational activities of DiK within the department of CE. Courses presented have a focus on the undergraduate curriculum, which relates integration of PACE tools into the syllabus of theoretical and practical content. Experiences gained in the past two semesters demonstrate the significance of PACE-contribution as a backbone in the CAE education.
