TL;DRAbstract

The impact of pregnancy on experimental malarias has been studied in a variety of primates and rodents. This chapter presents a critical review of those studies, particularly as they may be models of Plasmodium falciparum malaria of pregnancy of humans. Comparisons are made between human and primate and rodent placentations, and between P. falciparum and primate and rodent malarias, especially in respect of their deep vascular sequestration characteristics.
