A Synthetic Environment to Simulate the Pitting Corrosion of Copper in Potable Waters

4

TL;DRAbstract

The BNF rapid test to assess the ability of water to support the pitting corrosion of copper is described. The test cell provides an environment that simulates conditions that, in service, lead to the pitting of copper. The mode of operation is explained in terms of copper corrosion mechanisms elucidated by investigations carried out at BNF. The development of a synthetic water capable of supporting the pitting corrosion of copper is also described.
