TL;DRAbstract

The PF/SF/GF hybrid composites are prepared with steam explosion-modified sisal fiber (SF), glass fiber (GF) and phenol formaldehyde (PF) by blending and compression molding. The effects of SF on the mechanical properties are tested by static and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA).The morphological structure is characterized by the scanning electron microscopy (SEM).The results show that the addition of SF improves the properties of the hybrid composites obviously. When the mass ratio of SF and GF is 1, the impact strength and wear resistance of PF/SF/GF hybrid composites are improved by 25% and 66%, compared with those of PF/SF/GF composites. The loss peak temperature increases to 12℃, higher than that of PF/SF/GF composites. SEM observation of the impact fracture surface shows that the interfacial adhesion between the matrix and reinforcing phase is improved obviously by steam explosion modification of SF.
