A qualitative study of the experiences of paraprofessionals working in the mental health field
TL;DRAbstract
The aim of this study is to investigate the experiences paraprofessionals have working in the mental health field and the views they hold regarding their reasons in becoming a paraprofessional, acceptance in the workplace, barriers encountered and differences in service delivery to consumers. The main theme that came from this study was that participants overall had good experiences, but carried mixed emotions about the culture between paraprofessional and professionals working together in the mental health field. In conclusion, paraprofessionals can be an asset to the mental health field by providing effective representation of the client perspective, resulting in service improvement.
