An Animal Protection Perspective

Martin L. Stephens-1999-01-01-Humana Press eBooks

TL;DRAbstract

It should be emphasized at the outset that this chapter provides an animal protection perspective, and not the animal protection perspective. Animal protection organizations differ in their commitment to the Three R’s approach, in terms of both their policies and their day-to-day activities. At one end of the spectrum, some organizations oppose the Three R’s approach as a diversion from what they see as the primary issues; namely, the ethics and utility of animal research. At the other end, some organizations fully embrace the alternatives approach and devote virtually all of their day-to-day efforts to promoting this cause.
