INTERFERON TREATMENT FOR THROMBOCYTOPENIA ASSOCIATED WITH CHRONIC HCV INFECTION
TL;DRAbstract
SUMMARY Thrombocytopenia is commonly seen in patients with chronic liver disease, due mainly to hypersplenism secondary to portal hypertension. We report a case of chronic hepatitis C admitted with thrombocytopenia of unknown cause. The patient's symptoms and platelet count improved markedly with interferon treatment. We conclude that interferon treatment in chronic C hepatitis may improve HCV‐induced thrombocytopenia.
