TL;DRAbstract

This investigation was carried out on the fruits of 24 melon genotypes, six\ninbred lines, fifteen F1 hybrids from a half diallel cross between these six lines, and\nthree commercial hybrids (‘Ideal’, ‘KAM008’ and ‘KAM009’). The aim was to\ndefine the Egyptian consumer preference for melon flesh visual and eating quality,\nthrough correlation analysis between some chemicals and panel test results. There\nwas a highly significant negative correlation between total acidity (TA) and non\nreducing sugar (NRS) content with favorable taste and general acceptance by\nEgyptian consumers. A highly significant negative correlation was also observed\nbetween flesh whiteness “L” and greenness “a” values with favorable color and\ngeneral acceptance. A highly significant positive correlation was found between\nreducing sugar (RS), the ratio Total Soluble Solid (TSS)/TA, RS/TA and Total Sugar\n(TS)/TA with favorable taste and general acceptance.
