TL;DRAbstract

This study is concerned with the measuring of partial oxygen pressure (PaO2) in the arterial blood as related to functional pulmonary perturbations during the placement of cemented endoprosthesis (Austin Moore or Mac Kee Farrar type). The variations of the PaO2 in function of specific operative maneuvers are described. Among them, the insertion of the cement and the prosthesis into the femoral neck is always accompanied by a significant drop of the PaO2. This drop of the PaO2 lasts for 20 minutes after the cementing. The role of the embolism and of the monomere circulating in the lungs is discussed.
