TL;DRAbstract

The former Kirtland Precision Bombing Range is located near Albuquerque, New Mexico. This site is classified by the United States Government as a Formerly Used Defense Site (FUDS) and was a World War II-era military training facility. This demonstration utilized Helicopter Multi-sensor Towed Array Detection System (MTADS) Magnetometry (HeliMag) technology, a wide area assessment technology. A data collection survey was conducted in October of 2005 and resulted in the survey of over 5,000 acres. Targets were selected using automatic picking procedures and 23,648 anomalies were selected from the data to assess the distribution of metal objects across the study area. A subset of anomalies in each of the areas of interest were analyzed using dipole fit analysis, the results of which were used to down-select candidate targets for intrusive investigation. These intrusive investigation results were used for verification of HeliMag results.
