TL;DRAbstract

As explained in Chapter 9, the signing of the completed Manufacturer's Data Report by the Authorized Inspector and the stamping of the boiler with a Code symbol stamp mark the completion of the boiler. The manufacturer has met its responsibility to supply a boiler which complies with the rules of Section I. Since Section I applies to new construction only, by its own definition in the Foreword, its direct applicability to the boiler has ended. It then becomes the responsibility of the user to maintain the boiler in accordance with requirements of the jurisdiction where the boiler is installed. As can be seen on the map in Chapter 2 showing jurisdictions in the United States and Canada with boiler and pressure vessel laws, all but one state (Wyoming) have boiler laws. For boilers in service, requirements for inspection, maintenance, repair, and alteration vary considerably.
