T h e vegetation of the m eadow bird protection area " Ellew icker Feld" (N W G erm any) is described.The grassland area is under extensive m anagem ent with a low level of nitrogenous fertilizers.Since the pasture becam e a nature reserve in 1980, small ponds of different size have been dug.The grassland plant com m unities are characterized as L o lio -and L u z u lo -C y n o s M r c tu w , K iin u n C H lo -A lo p ecu rctu n i g e n ic u la ti ami L o lio -P lanta g in e tu m m a jo ris. T h e vegetation o f the pond borders belongs toand Isoeto-N anojuncetea-com m unities.A J u n c u s ef f u s u s -c o m m u n ity is also described.T he plant com m unities of the Ellewicker Feld show only a small num ber o f species because t he grassland and ponds are young.The effects of the extensive m anagem ent show the decreased proportion o f plant species that are dependent on a high nitrogen availability.
