TL;DRAbstract

This piece of work is a literature based dissertation that aims to critically review the responses to juvenile sexual offending. It looks at a range of secondary resources including books, research and journal articles, as well as some of the relevant legislation and policy. It aims to explore whether there is a need for change in legislation, policy and practice in relation to the topic. Professional responses are discussed, as are legal and criminal responses, particularly the age of criminal responsibility. The author aims to provide critical evaluations of current legislation, policies and practices and recommend possible areas of improvement. The author chose this topic as she finds the ongoing debate about how best to balance welfare and justice in relation to these young people both fascinating and controversial.
