Medical education for example, recently the darling among university departments, has during the past third of a century received funds beyond any previous dreams of the academic world. From a single fortune, that of Mr. Rockefeller, $200,000,000 have gone into medical education and research during the four decades of this century. At such universities as Chicago, Rochester, Johns Hopkins, Washington, Vanderbilt and Tulane medical schools have received in various recent periods more than all other departments put together. The largest and richest school of education Teachers College, Columbia has only $7,000,000 of general endowment, a fund that is small compared with the capital of any of a dozen medical centers or compared with the $35,000,000 endowment of one of the engineering schools the Massachuset
