TOWARDS DEVELOPMENT OF SUSTAINABLE SLOPE PROTECTION IN TROPICAL SOILS

0

TL;DRAbstract

Some engineering geological investigations on factors controlling landslides have been carried out at a pilot study area situated at the foot-slope of Eastern Kulon Progo Mountains. Slope monitoring by using strain gauges (SG1 to SG5) and piezometers (PZ1 to PZ5) has been conducted to analyze mechanism of slope movements in response to the change of slope hydrology due to rain infiltration. Based on those monitoring, it was found that the slope movement (creeping) occurred within the colluvial deposits, in particular at the layer of tuff which was overlain by the lenses of tufaceous breccias, i.e. claystone-mudstone breccia and claystone-mudstone-andesitic breccia. In the upper foot-slope part, this moving zone was recorded by SG1 occurring at 9.00 to 9.50 m depth and by SG2 at 12.50 to 13.50 m depth. In the middle slope such movement was recorded by SG3 at the zone of 5.50 m to 6.50 m. depth. Meanwhile, at the lower foot-slope the movement occurred at the contact between mudstone of
