Catalytic activity of uranium compounds for hydrodesulfurization reactions

Roger D Jensen-2015-05-12-Montana State University ScholarWorks (Montana State University)

TL;DRAbstract

Uranium compounds were investigated as catalysts for hydrodesulfurization reactions.Kuwait diesel oil containing .about1.835% sulfur was used to test desulfurization activity. All catalysts were tested in a bench scale, continuous flow, fixed-bed, catalytic reactor.Upanium compounds did not act as promoters for a cobalt-molybdate catalyst.Uranium oxysulfide was shown to have some activity when supported on low surface area supports.Uranium oxide and sulfides were shown to have activity on higher surface area, supports with uranium oxide showing the highest activity. The activity of uranium oxide catalyst was shown to increase with an increase in uranium concentration. In general, all sulfur conversions with uranium catalysts were significantly lower than with cobalt-molybdate catalyst.
